The Beat is my monthly musical link love post. It’s a quick run down of all the great music articles I’ve read lately and stuff I think you might enjoy too.
What if we lived in a world where EPs became the norm for releasing music? Instead of a traditional album every 2-5 years, our favorite bands would release a little collection of 5-7 songs every one or two years. How would that change music?
I Tweeted this thought Sunday evening, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. I won’t even touch the business side of things, but from a fan perspective…I wouldn’t mind hearing a handful of highly curated songs from my very favorite bands more often instead of waiting to get a full album.
Questioning the norm is what a lot of articles address in this month’s edition of The Beat. Does having a platinum record mean anything if Rhianna can do it while not making a dime? Why should we be worried that streaming is killing the songwriter? Is the art of the album review dead?
