Bryan/College Station is home to one of my favorite Texas music venues. It’s a little place called the Grand Stafford Theater, a space in historic downtown Bryan that was originally a movie theater. It has character and charm and is worth the 1.5 hour drive for a show, always.
Bryan/College Station is also home to some mighty good Texas bands – and one of those is The Docs. Originally called The Wicked River Band, Dalton, Jerod, Jeff and Ryan came together to form their band in the way that only the best bands do – it just kind of happened. Dalton, the band’s drummer, was at a local open mic night in College Station and dug what he heard when Jerod and Jeff, lead singer and guitarist respectively, performed that night. Dalton introduced himself, mentioned he knew a bass player he’d known since middle school (Ryan), and a few jam sessions later…The Wicked River Band was born, playing up some red dirt and southern rock tunes. Their sound eventually evolved into their awesome Texas rock band vibe you hear today, and a name change was in order.
