Can we still pretend it’s summer? Just for one more day? Not because I love the heat and sunshine or want to go on an endless vacation…but because I have a playlist to share.
And because summer and I just don’t seem to get along.
What is it about me and this season? It’s never been my favorite, but the last few years summer has also meant lots of soul searching. Two years ago, I was writing about how Jack Antonoff’s summer anthem was everything. Last summer I was non-stop listening to a collection of songs I called my Titanic playlist. (aka songs for when you’re feeling down)
This summer? I’ve got that summertime sadness, to quote Lana Del Rey. July was rough. Really rough. My emotional state went to crap, and I did a lot of thinking about life – what I want out of it, what I’m missing, what I want to do and what’s stopping me. (Shocker, the answer was almost always ME.) It all just left me feeling really sad.
And I’ve created another playlist to match that mood. It’s full of melancholy downer tunes that I love. I’ve been listening to it a lot since late June, mixed in with a healthy dose of non-stop Smiths albums.
So before all our summer days fade away into my favorite season, here’s a few songs to enjoy >>>
And just in case you don’t have Spotify, here’s the track list:
On the upside: late summer fading into early fall has me super excited. I know The Good Groupie has been pretty quite lately – I’ve been SUPER focused on my other website and some major writing projects over there.
It feels SO good to be creating, and it’s making me understand more and more why bands go on hiatus. Sometimes you just need a new creative outlet to get an overall refresh.
But don’t worry – thegoodgroupie.com isn’t going anywhere. As is my habit, I’m rethinking things for this space and dreaming up new ideas that you’ll probably see come to fruition before the end of the year. Stay tuned for more soon.
What’s your favorite song for summertime sadness?
Share it in the comments – I’d love to give it a listen.
See ya summer,
