We need to talk about Colony House. Because holy crap, if you aren’t listening to this band you are majorly missing out, good groupie.
I first became obsessed with Colony House in early 2015 when I was hunting for bands to see at SXSW. They went on my “must see” list. They wound up in a New Music Monday post. And they were the highlight of SXSW 2015. I couldn’t get enough of their guitar-driven jangle pop.
I am still regularly listening to their 2014 debut, “When I Was Younger”, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when they released a new single, “You Know It”, this summer and announced that album no. 2, “Only The Lonely”, will be out September 16.
And this new single? Oh man.
You know how when you love a band and you think, “their music just couldn’t get any better,” and then it does?
That’s what “You Know It” does to me.

About the band:
Brothers Caleb and Will Chapman started making music together back in 2009 with their pal Scott Mills. The trio, originally named Caleb, added Parke Cottrell to the mix, and by 2013 the band had changed their name to Colony House – the name of an apartment complex in their hometown of Franklin where all the members had lived at one time or another. Musical influences ranged from legends like U2 to modern classics like Cold War Kids. It’s a unique blend that makes for a band with one hell of an infection debut record. (And fun fact: Caleb and Will are the sons of Steven Curtis Chapman.)
Why I like them:
Colony House was already the perfect pop/rock poison to suit my musical fancy, but this new song? It’s one of those songs you want to be able to jam inside your heart so it just keeps pumping through your system at all times. I love that it takes the sound I fell in love with and sets it on fire.
Plus, as a music fan how can you not get excited about an entire record inspired by life on the road? And all those “la la las” in the chorus don’t hurt either.
Songs to check out:
