How do you discover new music? Sometimes I stumble across a favorite band I wasn’t looking for. Other times they come from a friend’s recommendation. Occasionally, I might find a favorite band by seeing them live.
Rarely, however, do I find bands to love based on the record label they belong to.
But that’s exactly what happened with me and The Wild Wild.
Back in early 2013 I totally fell in love with The Lone Bellow. Last year just before SXSW, I got totally hooked on Colony House. I don’t usually take notice of band’s record labels, but I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that both were on Descendant Records, a boutique label under Sony Music.
So when I saw the label had a third band on their roster, I decided to check them out.
The Wild Wild didn’t disappointed. >>>

Young the Giant, Atlas Genius, synth pop/rock
About the band:
Benjamin Dunn is a wanderer. At 18, he hitchhiked his way out of the Midwest and wound up in California…where he spent 1 1/2 years sleeping on beaches. You might expect his music to have that Americana flair to it after all that time on the road, exploring the country. Instead, it’s this fantastic blend of energetic pop/rock with the perfect hint of synth and percussion.
Why I like him:
When you’re on the same label as The Lone Bellow and Colony House, there’s about a 99.9% chance that I will love you. And that’s exactly the case with The Wild Wild. (Descendant Records has some excellent taste, y’all.) Benjamin’s debut EP, “Kids”, is full of music perfect to pump you up for summer. I also love that his music has hints of what I love about Bleachers. <3 (BTW – “Kids” includes a remix of the single, “When We Were Young”, by Panama Wedding…who was a 3 Bands pick earlier this year!)
Songs to check out:
“When We Were Young”, “Young Blood”
