We’re changing things up this New Music Monday. My friends over at libromusica.com recently invited me to join in their Music Monday series, which I was so excited about. I’m a new reader over there, but I’ve already fallen in love with Tyler Brant & The Shakedown thanks to this post. (A band I see several of you already love too after following them on Twitter!)
So today – and the last Monday of the month moving forward – I’ll be diving into sharing some new music in a different format. And once you’re done with my post, head over to LibroMusica for even more music picks to enjoy.
This month, we’re talking current go to songs, artists you should check out and who has the best catalog of love songs of all time.
What is your current go to song?
“Love Is” by Dude York
I actually changed this pick at the 11th hour while working on my 3 Bands email for March. (All SXSW picks this month – sign up to receive it here!) I am freakin’ OBSESSED with Dude York’s “Love Is”. The band will be featured in my monthly 3 Bands email that’s going out tomorrow, but you need to drop everything and go listen to this song right now.
I love the grungy guitars and hard-sung vocals. I also love that Dude York changed the focus of their band based on one song their female bassist brought forward. That story is in tomorrow’s email.
What event are you looking forward to attending?
Andra Day at Warehouse Live
I’ll confess: I didn’t know who Andra Day was until she popped up in Apple’s holiday commercial, but I immediately fell in love with her voice. And her duet with Ellie Goulding at the Grammy’s only made me love that voice more.
She’s in Houston this coming Sunday, and despite driving back from a long weekend in Oklahoma that day…I’m determined to go see in her live in a small-ish setting while I still can.
Who is an artist that everyone needs to check out?
The Local Strangers
They were my first New Music Monday share of the year, and I am still crushing on their album, “Take What You Can Carry”. The Local Strangers is the type of indie rock sound I lust after that only seems to come out of homegrown Midwest musicians. Every song is a gorgeous, intoxicating blend of guitar, drums and vocals.
Which artist has the best catalog of love songs?
Is that cheesy and predictable? I’m not sure that I care if it is, because I stand by it. Songs like “I’ve Just Seen a Face”, “Can’t Buy Me Love”, “Something”, “All You Need is Love” and “I Want To Hold Your Hand” say so many perfect things about love in such a beautiful way. Sometimes putting things in the simplest terms is the best way to express a complex emotion like love.
Now it’s your turn!
Got a killer go to song you’re loving? Maybe a concert you’re looking forward to, a new band you can’t get enough of or think I’m way off base with my love song pick above? Share your picks and thoughts in the comments, then head over to libromusica.com for their Music Monday post!
