I love pop. That’s not the easiest thing for to say because once I really got into my music fandom…I left myself feel bad for sometimes liking stuff I heard on the radio.
My inner music snob got the better of me. What’s on the radio is crap! It’s written by too many people! The lyrics are terrible! No one plays their instruments!
All that may be true of a lot of pop music, but as a girl who grew up on the pop music of the 60s…isn’t that also true of most of the music I first fell in love with?
Over the last few years, I’ve re-embraced my love for pop music. The girls and I played Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” approximately 15 million times during a weekend together in 2012. In 2014 I declared myself a Katy Cat after watching Katy Perry’s “Part of Me” documentary, and just this past December I finally caved and went all-in on One Direction. (“History” got me.)
The result? A lot of random songs I love to listen to when I need something mindless, something happy or just something to dance around my apartment to.
I was in need of a playlist just like that about a month ago, so I started dropping my favorite recent pop songs into a little collection I call my Pick Me Up Pop Playlist:
Pick Me Up Pop Playlist
It’s a little all over the place, which is exactly why I love it. I’ve definitely turned them up way too loud and danced around to them in my underwear while getting ready for work.
But the one thing these songs all have in common? They all make me feel GOOD in some way. I turn them up, I sing along and I have fun while listening.
And sometimes it’s okay for music to just be FUN.
What pop song goes on your pick me up playlist?
