It’s time to get schooled. In a rocking band out of Ireland, anyway. I’ve been on a major – and totally unintentional – kick of falling in love with bands from Europe over the past year. From Nothing But Thieves and The Staves to Amason, I have been finding European band after European band with sounds that draw me in.
Today’s across-the-pond band is a group of newcomers called The Academic. These guys are half my age and just released a killer little five-song EP back in October I have been listening to and recommending to everyone. (Including my friends on my 3 bands email list – are you signed up? Join now to be the first to hear about my fave new bands I’m discovering.)
And today, blog reading friends, I want to introduce them to you:
For fans of:
Arctic Monkeys, Band of Skulls, Royal Blood, rock/pop
About the band:
The Academic is a band of four friends from a little town in central Ireland. Craig, Matt, Stephen and Dean formed the band in their early teens (a mere two years ago in 2013) and released their debut EP, “Loose Friends,” in October 2015.
Why I like them:
I’m on such a kick with good rock bands from across the pond lately, and The Academic is no exception. They’re one of those well-rounded rock/pop bands that would immediately go on to my must-see SXSW list. I love their energy – the kind you can hear in the recording and know it would be killer live. If you’re looking for some upbeat tunes to get you out of your winter funk, this is the band for you.
Songs to check out:
