There’s something about spring that says new music to me. I suppose it could be that spring is traditionally a time of rebirth and growth – lots of new life to discover. It might be all the summer music festival announcements coming out, drawing my attention to new bands in the teeny, tiny font at the bottom of the line up poster. (Always the first place I look.) Or maybe it’s going to SXSW on a mission to find new music.
Whatever it is, I always find myself with endless amounts of new albums and EPs to listen to on repeat, tons of new bands to get to know when March rolls into April.
So grab a cup of coffee and get cozy, good groupies, cause this month I have a boat load of new music to share with you!
For fans of: Sleeper Agent, Bad Suns, The Griswolds, jangle pop
How I discovered them: SXSW 2015
Why I like them: From the first time I heard their song “Silhouettes” on a SXSW 2015 playlist, I was sucked in by their energy. And these guys did not disappoint live. Despite standing in the rain and mud to watch their set, I think Lauren, Katie and I would all agree they were by far our favorite find during our time in Austin. Great little rock band everyone should know.

For fans of: Feist, Of Monsters and Men, synth pop
How I discovered them: Another SXSW 2015 discovery…and once I first heard their song “Älgen”, I could not stop playing it. Seriously. I’m not usually much for synth pop, but this band – whose members all come from notable Swedish bands to form a super group – does the trick for me.
Why I like them: Their music has this fantastic dreamy quality to it that I can’t get enough of. Singer Amanda Bergman’s voice just does something to me – sucks me in, puts me under a spell and makes me want to listen to this band forever.
Songs to check out: “Älgen”, “Duvan”, “Went to War”

How I discovered them: My third SXSW find/pick for you. This magical week in Austin never holds a shortage of incredible new bands to fall in love with.
Why I like them: They are low key, simple and beautiful. I love that their latest EP, “Moth Mender”, totally has a DIY feel to the songs and how they were recorded.
Songs to check out: “Dog Daze”, “Circle, Circle”

Band #2 Adam shared with me that I loved. This English folk rock trio of sisters write music perfect for my winter vacations in Wisconsin – quaint and quiet with soaring vocals and beautiful acoustic guitars. I’m slowly, but surely, falling in love.
One last SXSW 2015 find for you. I didn’t get a chance to catch them live in person, but I did watch a live stream of a SXSW show Geographer played. Overall, I am working my way towards loving this synth pop sound that’s been everywhere for the last however many years its been. (I’m either way ahead and way behind when it comes to the popular sound and trend in music.) This is a very cool band with some strong drums, strings and echo-y vocals.
These guys were featured in last month’s new music post, and I’ve quickly fallen in love with them. Great solid rock band. Check out their new EP, Never Enough, which I cannot stop playing.
Death Cab for Cutie
I’ve always been a pretty casual Death Cab fan, but I’m really loving their new album, “Kintsugi”. Give it a listen if you haven’t yet:
