Just 36 hours stand between me and the kick off of Center of the Universe Festival. And I have to admit: I haven’t been this excited about a music festival in awhile. Maybe it’s that my little music fan heart is on overload because I get to see one of my very favorite live bands, Fitz & the Tantrums, tomorrow night. Or maybe it’s just that I get to go spend a weekend in one of my favorite cities. (Coasts be damned, give me the Midwest any day, baby.) Whatever it is has got this Good Groupie excited for some live music this weekend.
As you read this, I’m somewhere on the road between Houston and Tulsa. (Stopping off in OKC overnight to pick up Katie and see Samantha and her boyfriend’s band, finally.) I packed up all my stuff last night – but not before snapping a few photos, like any blogger would. I spent some time yesterday re-reading all the posts in my “how to do music festivals smarter” series (there’s some seriously awesome guest posts in there, guys!) and then put together my festival bag.
Here’s #whatsinmybag for Center of the Universe Festival this weekend:
1. The bag
I wanted one of these hippie bags for the longest time and finally scored one on my vacation last summer. There’s never a question that I’ll be carrying a cross-body bag to a show or festival. I love them because it keeps everything close to my body in a crowd, and it keeps my bag relatively small so I’m not constantly bumping into people with it – cause let’s face it…no one likes that girl.
2. Power snacks
Per Claire’s recommendation, I have a few power snacks stashed away – raw almonds and dried cranberries. Protein + a little natural sugar = perfect little boost I’ll need at some point in the evening.
3. Crown & Glory ears
I earned these ears at The Blogcademy last summer, and I have not taken nearly enough opportunities to wear them since then. And because COU is an evening fest, I’m looking forward to wearing these in lieu of a hat both nights! (P.S. It doesn’t look like you can get my exact ears, but Crown & Glory has tons of other amazing things to buy!)
4. My wristband!
These things are pretty snazzy too – you can link your Facebook and Twitter accounts to them for prizes all weekend as well as your credit card so you can pay at bars or merch booths with just a flick of the wrist. Seriously, what will they think of next?
5. Earpeace ear plugs
Cause at 30 years old, it’s time to start taking care of your ears so you can keep going to shows and hear how beautiful the music is live. (I got these for my birthday, but I tucked them away in a drawer and haven’t used them yet – excited to have the chance!)
6. Sunscreen & mint lip gloss
Two of my must-haves from my music festival beauty bag post. A little sunscreen for the end-of-the-day sun and some mint lip gloss to cool down are always in my bag for festivals.
7. Baby wipes
I still can’t believe I only learned this trick a year ago – perfect for a quick wipe-down when you get too sweaty and gross. It’s not a shower, but it’s amazing how refreshing it feels.
8. iPhone equipped with Center of the Universe Festival app
You better believe I will be Instagraming up a storm for The Good Groupie all weekend – be sure to follow. (Note: I just downloaded the Party! Party! app – consider yourself warned.) And even more handy – I have the entire festival lineup, map and even a photo booth I can’t wait to try all in the COU app – awesome!
It’s good to be friends with photographers who will loan you one of their three back-up cameras for the weekend. (Thanks Amanda!) Looking forward to shooting lots of great photos.
10. Ray Bans
Black Ray Bans, you know she’s with the band…so what do teal ones signify? That you’re The Good Groupie, of course! (And that you have prescription ones that came in rad colors.)
What’s the #1 thing you throw in your festival bag?
See you from the Center of the Universe!
