This particular post comes from my friend Tammi, who I’ve known for years. She’s the kind of friend you can get into trouble with, yet you both come out of it looking like angels. It all started back in January when my Aunt Shirley left a message on my Facebook wall asking if I had tickets to see fun. in Houston or Austin.
No, I did not. But she was interested in seeing them live, had missed their Chicago show by a few months and if she bought my ticket to make up for every birthday she might have missed along the way, would I go with her?
“How do I even answer this?” I wondered.
I’ve been following fun.’s lead singer Nate Ruess since his band The Format. The first time I ever saw him live in 2005, there were maybe 50 people total in the venue, and Nate bummed a cigarette off a friend when we walked by him outside the venue before the show. This man wrote the soundtrack to the better part of my college years, and I was absolutely heartbroken the day The Format announced they were over in 2007.
But then fun. happened – and included Andrew Dost of Anathallo and our beloved Jack Antonoff of Steel Train. This was going to be the greatest band EVER.
